Industrial Court Judges; Hon. Justice Asaph Ruhinda Ntengye and Hon. Lady Justice Tumusiime Mugisha Linda on Thursday September 2, 2021 paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Richard Buteera, in his chambers at the Court of Appeal.
The two congratulated him on his appointment as Deputy Chief Justice.
They went on to seek his wise counsel in some of the day to day administrative, adjudicative and practical realities they go through.
Further, they briefed the DCJ about The Labor Disputes (Arbitration and Settlement) (Amendment) Act, 2021 which streamlines the composition of the court and provides for powers of the court, terms of appointment of Head Judge, previously Chief Judge; Deputy Head Judge and other judges of the court.
Under the amendment, a case can now be handled by a single judge unlike under the previous legislation where cases before the court were handled by a coram of two judges and three panelists.
The two Judges also expressed their views regarding the applicability of the new legislation vis-à-vis the Administration of the Judiciary Act.
The DCJ thanked them for reaching out to his office for purposes of sharing work related experiences. He equally appreciated the fact that they prefer working as a team, a fact he emphasized would help them develop common goals and objectives that would as a result lead to efficiency and effectiveness at work.
The two judges expressed their gratitude to the DCJ for always being there for them even at short notice whenever they wanted to consult him.
The interaction was also attended by the Private Legal Secretary to the Deputy Chief Justice, HW Dr Alex Mushabe Karocho.
